Porter's Bistro - still the best!

Updated: Feb 22, 2020

Inglewood had a fantastic gig playing our usual haunt last night. For those of you who don't live in Murrayville, (an area in Langley, BC), Porter's is a coffee shop that has been around for over 100 years. The Porter family opened the store in the 1880s, ran it for a century and then converted it into a coffee shop that closed sometime in the 2000s. After a few changes of hand, proprietor and Red Seal Chef, Bill Buurmeester, reopened the building in 2011 as Porter's Bistro Coffee and Tea House. The cash register behind the counter is the same one used back in 1911.

Bill had a vision to create a sense of community - a place where people could go to hang out, enjoy a cup of coffee and some delicious "home cooking". He took that even further by establishing Porter's as a live music venue. Today, Porter's brings in some of the best live music anywhere in the Vancouver area. Bill has a Friday music night featuring blues, jazz, dixieland and singer/songwriter acts. Saturday night is usually a rocking good time with various acts, like INGLEWOOD, but also LESISMORE, TIME WALKERS, DENNIS ENS TRIO, CHICO & TIM, BLUE MONKEYS, DAN BEER , MISS BEHAVE & THE BAD BOYS and GARTH JOHANNSEN.

In 2015, Bill decided to add a weekly open mic/jam session to the mix. Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30, SHANNON LEE hosts "MUM" - the BEST DAMN JAM in the LOWER MAINLAND at Porter's. It is fabulously fun time where musicians and singers from all over the province drop in to strut their stuff. This night is packed with great entertainment!

After a great night playing at PORTER"S some of us are heading down there again to enjoy a delicious Sunday breakfast!

We'll be back at Porter's on May 6th.
